In this video tutorial, the entire image making process is covered for one of my portfolio images 'Rebirth', from in the field through to the post processing. In the field, we commence in the lush forests of Fiordland New Zealand, where you will learn the composition theory and how to find some harmony in chaotic environments, the settings used to capture the image as well as my handheld focus stack method to achieve the final result.
An in-depth processing segment makes up the majority of this tutorial, where I run through step-by-step the multiple adjustments made to the raw file in order to create a sense of depth, atmosphere and separation in the image. You will learn how to combine files in a focus stack for large DOF, how to create a 'dreamy' effect across the scene and in isolated areas of the image, colour work to seperate the green tones, boosting natural light, removing flares and distracting areas, warping methods for better symmetry in the composition, mid-tone contrast adjusting and much more.
My unique processing methods are simple and effective. There are no plug-ins, presets, actions or unnecessary luminosity masking. You will learn to do everything manually and not rely on using someone else's automated tricks. Develop for yourself the skills and methods to apply effective techniques across any image.
In this tutorial I only use Adobe Photoshop and Bridge however the theory and most methods can easily be transferred across to Lightroom.
If you want to learn how to work with forest greens, better understand Photoshops capabilities and simple, effective tricks to create images like this, than this is the tutorial for you!
